Fabrication Excellence for Fugro’s Jack-Ups

Jack-Up leg extension and repairs on Fugro's Excalibur Jack-Up vessel saw A&P's Falmouth's combined marine, fabrication and engineering expertise put to work.

This intensive two month programme of work saw all eight of Excalibur's legs repaired and upgraded, two also required sections to be replaced and two required a 10-15 metre extension in length.

The legs, which weigh in excess of 80 tonnes each and are more than 50 metres long, were delivered to the Falmouth facility by sea and laid into the berth for repair by A&P's specialist fabrication and welding team.

Les Lugg, director from Fugro said: "A&P were able to deliver to our high standards of detail and precision, which are vital for a works of this kind.  We have called on the team for Jack-Up mobilisation work in the past, providing support for mobilisations and demobilisation of our equipment as required, and their facilities and locality to our head office in Falmouth certainly adds value to our operations."

A&P Falmouth's location is particularly suited to Jack-Ups thanks to its large expanse of clear water which removes the risks associated with air draft. The vessels can jack up at alternative locations with access via a link-span platform away from A&P's main berths. A&P also has on-site cranage, can offer access to one of its three dry-docks and has sea-bed survey data to identify the best location for lowering Jack-Up legs.
