A&P TYNE ACHIEVES BRONZE BETTER HEALTH AT WORK AWARD.

20 Jan 2020

A&P Tyne is to be presented with a Bronze Award following its success in the Better Health at Work Award scheme.

The Better Health at Work Award recognises the efforts of employers in the North East and Cumbria in addressing health issues within the workplace.

Through the award scheme, employees benefit from increased access to health information and interventions which can potentially save lives, such as identifying dangerously high cholesterol levels and early stage cancers.

In return, employers benefit from improved morale, dramatically lower levels of absenteeism and increased productivity.

There are four levels to the award, starting with Bronze which lays a firm foundation to build a healthier workplace.

A&P North East, which incorporates A&P’s Tyne, Tees and Great Yarmouth facilities, identified four Health Advocates who coordinated a Health and Wellbeing campaign across all three sites throughout 2019.

To achieve the Bronze Award, A&P North East offered a health needs assessment to its workforce. The survey focused on what areas of health employees wanted further information on, such as mental health, wellbeing, sleep, diabetes, heart, oral health, work–life balance and cancer.

Although only required to run three health campaigns based on the results of that assessment, A&P North East added an extra and ran four. The topics of these were: men’s health, stop smoking, healthy summer and wellbeing.

Alongside each campaign, noticeboards were used to display information and leaflets were issued. A wide variety of ways were used to communicate to all employees what each campaign was about and offer guidance and support. These were Toolbox talks, Time Out for Safety Packs, memos, emails and attaching information to payslips.

Staff have also been provided with wider health updates on a regular basis. The importance of positive mental health and well-being have also been promoted, together with healthy eating initiatives.

Keith Henry, Managing Director of A&P North East, said: “The health and wellbeing of our workforce is of paramount importance to the A&P Group which is why we signed up to the Better Health at Work Award scheme.

“We are delighted to have achieved a Bronze award and are committed to now working towards a Silver Award.”

A&P Tyne will receive its Bronze Award at a presentation event in January.
