A&P Group welcomes the Government’s £160 million pledge to the offshore wind sector.

The pledge forms part of Prime Minster Boris Johnson’s commitment to “Build Back Greener” and will be used to upgrade the ports and facilities that develop wind turbines whilst supporting the build of new fixed and floating wind farms.

It is hoped this investment will quadruple the UK’s offshore wind production from the current ten gigawatts to 40. By committing to this latest round of investment, the Government believes the offshore wind sector will be able to supply enough electricity to power the equivalent of every home by 2030.

The investment also comes with an aspiration to create thousands of new jobs in the sector.

David McGinley, Chief Executive Officer Cammell Laird Shiprepairers and Shipbuilders Ltd Atlantic and Atlantic and Peninsula Marine Services said: “A&P Group welcomes the Government’s pledge to the offshore wind sector. This new investment will ensure the UK can maintain its position as world leader in renewables and provide the UK supply chain with a platform to further develop their services; here in the UK and through export opportunities to the world’s offshore wind community.

“The offshore wind sector is a key area of focus for A&P Group and we are committed to developing our skills and infrastructure to support this sector. A&P currently has a team of 53 apprentices, who are being trained in fabrication, electronics and maintenance - vital skills which will benefit the offshore wind sector for years to come.

“This new round of investment will ensure the UK supply chain is given the confidence to continue to collaborate to ensure the infrastructure is in place to support this opportunity.”

A&P Group deploys its transferable skills, expertise and commercial agility to provide the offshore wind sector with all the precision skills needed to sustain their operations here in UK waters, Europe and beyond.
