Case Study: Reducing Downtime and Delivering BWT for Condor Ferries.
When Condor Ferries required Ballast Water Treatment (BWT) installations for two of its vessels, A&P’s Falmouth team provided the expertise and specialist resources required to complete the work during planned vessel downtime.
Condor Ferries is a long-standing client of A&P Falmouth, with two to four dockings carried out each year across its four-strong fleet. In order for Condor Ferries to meet its BWT obligations with minimum disruption, cost and downtime, A&P offered a turnkey approach to install the systems during the Commodore Clipper’s & Commodore Goodwill’s scheduled refit periods.
This was the first turnkey solution of its kind by A&P, the Falmouth team designed, purchased, project-managed, installed and commissioned the BWT system - completing the Clipper in just four weeks and the Goodwill in three.
Ian Douglas, commercial director at A&P Falmouth said: “A&P Falmouth have delivered a highly bespoke and technical BWT solution during a planned dry docking and repair period, With two large scale projects running simultaneously on each vessel, we undertook detailed project planning from the outset - spanning design, commercial considerations, resourcing and installation - to ensure that the BWT installation didn’t compromise progress of the dry dock period or vice-versa. The success of this project is testament to that planning, our highly skilled team and a strong, ongoing relationship with the client.”
Sean Collins, Head of Fleet & Asset at Condor Ferries said: “The installation of BWT on two of our vessels is just the latest in a long line of technically-skilled and highly successful projects that A&P Falmouth has delivered for Condor Ferries.
“The team’s ability and willingness to deliver this work while the vessels were in scheduled refit demonstrates A&P’s understanding of Condor’s asset availability requirements, and has allowed us to minimise downtime and maintain the best possible service for our customers. Both of these projects were delivered on time, in budget and to the very high technical standards we have come to expect from A&P.”
