A&P Group has a long-standing history of delivering complex and technically-challenging oil and gas, renewable and marine infrastructure projects from its UK facilities, many of which call on the group’s longstanding fabrication expertise.
Fabrication expertise spans subsea and floating structures, topsides, foundation structures, pressure vessels, substations and wave and tidal devices. The team also has significant expertise in the fabrication, pre-commissioning and direct load-out of modularised offshore structures. Using in-house capabilities to maintain tight project control, we offer the complete integrated package from structural, piping and mechanical, through to E&I work.

A&P Group’s most high-profile fabrication projects include building subsea structures for the UK North Sea sector as well as fabrication of blocks for the new Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carrier, the Astute Submarine class and more recently the aft end of the new RRS Sir David Attenborough polar explorer vessel.

RRS Sir David Attenborough
A&P Tyne’s specialist team of engineers and fabricators has invested more than 175,000 man hours in the fabrication of the 899-tonne steel stern, also known as Block 10, which is the equivalent weight of 71 London double decker buses and more than 23 meters long and 24 meters wide.
The stern formed part of the new ship RRS Sir David Attenborough, which is a major UK Government investment in frontier science. Commissioned by NERC, and built by marine engineering company Cammell Laird Shiprepairers & Shipbuilders Ltd, the vessel is a Rolls-Royce design and is operated by British Antarctic Survey.
Cory Barges
A&P Tyne has delivered the first three 20-box barges for waste management firm Cory – which will help to remove 100,000 hours of truck journeys from London’s roads each year.
The barges form part of a seven-year multi-million pound fabrication contract which includes three more 20-box and 16 30-box barges.
The barges will be used by Cory to transport London’s residual waste along the River Thames and will help to replace nearly half of Cory’s existing 50-strong barge fleet. Each barge will transport between 270 and 400 tonnes of waste each.
The first three barges, each approximately 35m in length, were fabricated under cover in A&P Tyne’s main fabrication hall and then painted in a separate facility. Once lowered into A&P Tyne’s large dry dock, the barges underwent a successful incline test and towing trials in accordance with IACS procedures. The finished barges were towed to Charlton on the Thames in 2021.
Prysmian’s Ulisse
A&P North East’s Tyne facility, fabricated two thruster compartments, a mezzanine deck, three skegs and two electrical control rooms.
The thruster compartments were integrated in two of the vessel’s existing water ballast tanks. The thruster compartments were fully outfitted with all associated thruster equipment including coolers, heaters electrical panels, hydraulics, insulation, and painting.
A&P fabricated new lifeboat platforms to support a planned increase in persons on board (POB) to 68, including new lifeboat davits, new lifeboats and associated equipment.
